Panjim, May. 31. Various child-focused organisations such as Margaret Bosco Bal Sadan (MBBS), Catalyst for Social Action, Human Touch Foundation, Children's Right in Goa, Childline Goa and Konkan Development Society have joined hands in caring for children during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Goa.
A first-ever COVID-19 Care-Centre for children at Don Bosco Shelter Home, Parra, Goa, was launched by Dr Digambar Naik, Managing Committee Member, Indian Red Cross Society. The centre will care for male children who are COVID positive with asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic traces. The centre approved by the Collector, North Goa, was inspected by YVV Rajashekar, IAS, Secretary and Deepali Naik, director of the Women and Child Department.
''COVID-19 Care-Centres of this nature are important as not every child can home-isolate after getting the virus. There are areas which are densely populated, and children might not be able to access better care,'' said Father Jose Sequeira of MBBS, a registered child care institution. MBBS at Paliem, Goa, houses orphans and semi-orphans.
The infected can be referred to the centre via mobile number 9673174950 or through the national child helpline 1098. The centre also provides psychological first-aid by professional clinical psychologists, post-COVID care, dry ration support and other social protections, said Father Sequeira.
